When does Claude usage reset?
Claude operates on two separate reset clocks: a 5-hour session limit that refreshes every five hours, and a weekly limit (on paid plans) that resets once every seven days on a fixed account-assigned schedule. There is no universal midnight reset. Check Settings › Usage or your in-chat lockout notice for your exact reset timestamp.

What time does my Claude usage reset?
There is no single universal reset time across Claude accounts. Anthropic does not use midnight, 12:00 AM UTC, or any other fixed global hour as a universal reset time. Instead, your reset time depends on which limit you reached:
Dynamic local time (within 5 hours)
When approaching or reaching your 5-hour limit, Claude displays your exact local reset time directly in the chat window and in Settings › Usage (e.g. resets 4:30 PM).
The reset happens automatically when that exact minute arrives.
Fixed account day & time every 7 days
Each paid account is assigned a fixed account-assigned weekly schedule (for example, Thursdays at 3:15 PM). This day and time remain the same regardless of when you log in or how heavily you prompt.
Check Settings › Usage to see your account's assigned weekly timestamp.
Where to inspect your exact reset timestamp
You can inspect the exact reset time for your account across three official surfaces:

Will Claude reset today?
For the 5-hour session limit: Check the reset timestamp Claude shows. A session limit resets on its five-hour schedule, but if the displayed reset falls after midnight, that may be tomorrow rather than today.
For the weekly limit: It resets today only if the account-specific weekly reset timestamp shown in Settings › Usage falls today.
How the 5-hour session reset works
The 5-hour session limit manages interactive capacity. It applies to Free, Pro, Max, Team (per member), and legacy seat-based Enterprise plans. Current usage-based Enterprise accounts do not have an included session allowance because all token usage is metered directly.
Why you should rely on your account, not third-party formulas
Anthropic documents that the session limit resets every five hours, but Anthropic does not document that the five-hour window is definitively anchored to your first message of the day. Many third-party articles advise calculating your reset by adding five hours to your initial prompt—this is often inaccurate and leads to confusion.
Rely on the exact reset time displayed by your Claude account in Settings › Usage or in the 5-hour limit reached - resets [time] banner rather than trying to calculate when your five-hour period supposedly started.
When your stated reset time arrives, your included session allowance restores automatically. You do not need to log out, clear your browser cookies, or restart your device. If you are blocked now and cannot wait for it, work through the limit reached checklist.
How the weekly limit reset works
Subscribers on Claude Pro, Max, and Team plans operate under a weekly limit alongside their 5-hour session limit. The weekly limit meters cumulative usage across all models over a seven-day cycle.
Fixed account schedule (no schedule drift)
Anthropic assigns each paid account a fixed day and time each week when the weekly limit resets. The weekly reset day and time remain the same regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription began.
For example, if your account is assigned Thursdays at 3:15 PM, your weekly allowance resets every Thursday at 3:15 PM. It does not reset at Sunday midnight, it does not roll forward from your first prompt of the week, and it does not reset on a 72-hour cycle.
In Settings › Usage, weekly usage can be tracked separately for Opus only and all other models. If you reach your weekly limit, prompts pause under your included plan usage until that scheduled day and time arrive, unless you have Usage Credits enabled.

Does Claude Code reset separately from Claude.ai?
No. When authenticated with your Claude Pro, Max, or Team subscription, Claude Code shares the exact same 5-hour session and weekly limits as Claude on the web and desktop. A limit reached in the terminal pauses web access, and vice versa. Does starting a new chat or deleting conversations reset the limit?
No. Usage limits apply account-wide across all chats, projects, and surfaces. Starting a new chat or closing the app does not reset your timer. However, starting a fresh conversation on your next session prevents sending large prior chat history, helping your allowance last longer.
How Usage Credits interact with reset times
Eligible subscribers on Pro, Max, and Team plans can enable Usage Credits in Settings › Usage. When an included limit is reached, Claude allows you to continue working at standard API rates, displaying:
