Claude Artifact Usage Promotion: 50% Discount Rules and Limits

Anthropic's October 2026 Artifact usage promotion gives eligible Pro, Max, and Team subscribers a 50% discount on five-hour session limit consumption for qualifying Artifact work between October 1 and October 15, 2026. The discount covers the next 10 messages (up to 15 steps per reply) after creating or editing an artifact. It does not reduce weekly limit consumption, does not apply to Claude Code, and does not discount Usage Credits.

Answer in short:
  • 5-hour session discount only: Cuts five-hour session limit consumption by 50% for eligible follow-up work.
  • Weekly limit is unaffected: Your weekly limit continues draining at the standard 100% rate.
  • Chat trigger window: Covers the next 10 messages after an artifact is created or edited, capped at 15 steps per reply.
  • Window restarts: Creating or editing another artifact restarts the promotional discount window.
  • Excluded: Claude Code, Free tier, all Enterprise tiers, API, Slack, local Cowork tasks, and Usage Credits.

Understanding your limits during this promotion:

• If you want to know how your session ceiling resets throughout the day, read our 5-hour limit guide.

• If your weekly bar is filling up, see our weekly limit guide—the Artifact discount does not slow weekly depletion.

• If you use terminal workflows, see our Claude Code usage guide—Claude Code is completely excluded from this promotion.

Does the Artifact promotion affect weekly limits?

No. Eligible paid Claude accounts can have both a five-hour session limit and a weekly usage limit. The 50% discount applies exclusively to the five-hour session limit. It does not reduce consumption of your weekly usage limit.

This distinction is where most searchers run into trouble. Eligible Artifact work uses 50% less of your five-hour session limit while the promotion applies. Your weekly usage limit receives no discount and continues counting that work at the standard rate.

Does creating a blank document double your Claude allowance?

No. Some users assume that choosing “Document” or creating a blank artifact gives them twice as much Claude usage across their account. That conclusion overlooks three specific constraints built into the promotion:

1. 10-message & 15-step cap

The 50% discount applies only to the next 10 messages after an artifact is created or edited. Furthermore, inside each discounted reply, only the first 15 steps receive the discount. Any tool calls, code executions, or searches beyond step 15 burn quota at the standard 100% rate.

2. Weekly quota still drains

Because weekly limits are not discounted, users who heavily prompt within artifact chats can still exhaust their weekly allowance days before their scheduled reset. Once your weekly cap is reached, new prompts pause regardless of session discounts.

3. Claude Code is excluded

For developers, Claude Code sessions account for the fastest allowance burn. Claude Code does not support this promotion. Starting a document artifact on the web will not extend your terminal coding allowance.

How the 50% discount triggers: chats vs. Claude Cowork

The promotion behaves differently depending on whether you are working in a standard Claude chat or in Claude Cowork:

In standard Claude chats (Web, Desktop, Mobile)

Starting from the Output menu: If you start a brand-new chat by selecting Document, Presentation, or Design from the Output menu, the 50% discount applies starting from your very first prompt.

Starting in an ordinary chat: If you begin a chat normally and later ask Claude to create or edit an artifact, the message where Claude generates the artifact counts at the standard 100% rate. The discount begins on the subsequent message and covers the next 10 messages.

The 15-step reply limit: When Claude generates a response, it performs discrete actions (such as searching, invoking a tool, or rewriting code). Up to 15 steps inside each reply receive the 50% session discount. Steps 16 and onward in that same reply count at the standard rate.

Restarting the window: Whenever Claude creates another artifact or modifies an existing artifact in that chat, the 10-message counter restarts back to 10.

In Claude Cowork (Cloud tasks only)

Cloud tasks only: The discount applies exclusively to Cowork tasks running in the cloud (including tasks moved into a Workspace). Tasks executed locally in the Claude Desktop app do not qualify.

Started via Document, Presentation, or Design: If you initiate a cloud Cowork task through the Output menu, the discount applies to approximately the first 45 minutes of the task.

Other cloud Cowork tasks: When Claude creates or edits an artifact in an existing cloud task, up to the next 80 steps (such as running searches, tool calls, or artifact updates) receive the discount.

Restarting in Cowork: Creating or editing another artifact during the task restarts the applicable discount window.

Promotion dates and administrative terms

The promotion is active from October 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM PT through October 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT.

Eligible Pro, Max, and Team accounts receive the discount automatically without requiring promo codes, coupon redemptions, or account toggles. Anthropic notes in its Help Center documentation that the promotion has no cash value, is non-transferable, and may be modified or terminated early at Anthropic's discretion.

Historical context: Anthropic previously ran temporary quota promotions, such as the May–September 2026 Claude Code +50% weekly limit promotion (which transitioned to a permanent +25% baseline on September 14) and the introductory Fable 5 promotional inclusion. You can track all past and active policy shifts in our Claude usage changes ledger.

Frequently asked questions about the Artifact usage promotion

Does the Claude Artifact promotion affect my weekly limit?

No. The 50% discount applies strictly to your five-hour session limit. Your weekly limit continues to burn at the standard 100% rate. If your weekly limit is nearing exhaustion, creating or editing artifacts will not slow down that depletion.

Does creating a blank document double my Claude allowance?

Creating a document artifact does not double your account allowance. The 50% discount only reduces consumption of your five-hour session limit for eligible work, lasts for up to 10 messages per artifact event, and caps discount coverage at the first 15 steps of each reply. It does not reduce your weekly limit consumption, and Claude Code is excluded entirely.

Does this promotion apply to Claude Code?

No. Claude Code is excluded from the promotion. Terminal CLI sessions authenticated with your Claude subscription consume both five-hour and weekly limits at standard rates, regardless of whether you generate code, documentation, or markdown files.

When does the 50% discount start in a chat?

If you start a new conversation by selecting Document, Presentation, or Design from the Output menu, the discount applies starting with your first message. If you start in an ordinary chat and ask Claude to create or edit an artifact later, the message where Claude creates the artifact counts at the standard rate, and the subsequent 10 messages receive the 50% discount.

Does editing an existing artifact restart the 10-message discount window?

Yes. Every time Claude creates a new artifact or edits an existing one in that chat, the 10-message discount counter restarts from message one.

What happens if a Claude reply takes more than 15 steps?

Within each discounted chat reply, only the first 15 steps (such as running searches, executing tools, or updating artifact contents) receive the 50% session discount. Any steps beyond the 15th step in that same reply count at the standard 100% rate.

How does the promotion work in Claude Cowork?

In Claude Cowork, the promotion applies only to cloud tasks, not local desktop tasks running on Claude Desktop. Cloud tasks started by choosing Document, Presentation, or Design from the Output menu receive the discount for approximately the first 45 minutes. For other cloud tasks, creating or editing an artifact discounts up to the next 80 steps.

Does the discount apply to Usage Credits?

No. If your account runs out of included plan allowance and continues prompting using Usage Credits, those messages are billed at standard API rates. The promotion does not discount pay-as-you-go credit charges.

Which plans qualify for the Artifact discount?

The promotion applies automatically to Pro, Max (5× and 20×), and Team plans. Free accounts and all Enterprise plans (both seat-based and usage-based tiers) are excluded.

Do Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides created through Claude get the discount?

No. Files created through the Google Drive connector do not qualify as native Claude artifacts and count at standard rates. Work done inside the standalone Claude Design app is also excluded.

What are the exact dates of the promotion?

The promotion runs from October 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM PT through October 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT. Anthropic states that it may change or end the promotion early.
